About fixing the roof
The Recall Marshfield campaign is working to build awareness about the status of the leaking roof at Martinson Elementary School that is in need of repair. At the fall town meeting on October 20th, Marshfield citizens voted to repair the roof. The total estimated cost of the school roof project is $3.4 million. The town plans to fund the repairs with a debt exclusion. Fortunately the town does not have to cover the full cost of the project thanks to an agreement with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). MSBA has agreed to reimburse the town 49.1% of the total cost of the project if the town passes a debt exclusion to cover the remaining cost. The project is expected to cost the average Marshfield homeowner—with a property value of $758,000—about $30.35 per year. The debt exclusion question must be voted on by the town in a ballot election and approved by more than half of the votes cast. The election for the debt exclusion vote is set for January 10th at Marshfield High School.
